As a teacher, I feel it is not only my duty, but also my passionate ambition to provide my pupils with a learning experience that equips each of them to fulfil their individual potentials, in whichever life choices they ultimately make. It is my intention that they will be able to face daily challenges head on and make decisions based on a broad understanding of life’s moral compass.
I believe it is essential that students are able to adopt a positive disposition towards their education as too often pupils associate negative memories and emotions from the school experiences. Instead of being allowed to learn from mistakes, they are often made to feel they have failed or are simply inadequate. My philosophy is simple: I build strong relationships with each and every one of my pupils. I get to know them at their best, just as I get to know them at their worst and this simple but effective strategy allows me to help them overcome considerable educational hurdles.
My teaching style must be described as energetic, enthusiastic and above all passionate. My cross curricular approach, wherever practical and appropriate, allows me to deliver exciting lessons. Tailoring them to access the learning needs of all individuals in my classes.
If you walk into my class without warning, would it be difficult to say what you would find? Through experience, I discovered that employing a wide range of teaching methods and strategies increases motivation and sharpens mental fluidity. Of course, for this to succeed, the style is based on flexibility and a willingness to adopt and adapt new and proven techniques.
Prior planning, however, advance planning is, of course, necessary. A competent teacher will be needed to effectively enhance your full potential. When I plan, my initial thoughts are always with the result, a result of which I come to consider higher order thinking. It is through this philosophy that I allow all skills to access the content of the lesson. The lesson will always require each and every student to remember a skill, while giving others the opportunity to apply their understanding.
Assessment is also something I use to inform the planning and delivery of my lesson. The way I use it means that I implement a continuous approach to evaluation. This is something that happens regularly, as many times as a lesson, with the goal of sculpting the learning platform for each individual. I also highlight summative assessment as an essential need.
To conclude, my goal as a teacher is not simply to allow learners to gain information from me. It is to instil a lifelong passion for learning, and not only allow, but encourage an academic tenacity, in which learners can not only recall information and understand new topics, but strive to innovate and create a world surpassing that in which they were born into.
